1/17/2013 I'm replacing the French door that was in the hole in the wall below.  The latch mechanism wasn't working and it turned out that the sill was rotted.  I had seen this because the flashing was pretty bad under the door.

Here is the new door.  This is an outward opening door, which is a little weird. It is outward opening to meet the hurricane codes.

The glass below is going to go above it.  I'm making a frame for it.  I had a piece if double pain glass made with the same shape.  The glass I bought meets hurricane codes.  It will go outside of the cut glass below in the frame.  I bought this window from the same place in Canonsburg, PA that I bought the fireplace mantle.  It's about 100 years old and came out of an old Victorian house.

I made a jig the shape of the glass.  I bought some clear pine and cut in half then planed it to about 0.2 inches thick.  I put it in boiling water for a couple hours then clamped them to the jig.  I waited about 12 hours then took them off, I have four of them.  I'm then going to glue them together.

Here is the process of gluing the four boards together.

There are three window supports in the frame, the one between the cut glass and double pane is done.  Now I have to make the one outside the double pane glass and the one inside the cut glass.

Well the inside support for the cut glass is done.  Below shows the double pane glass in the frame.  Now I have to make the outside support.  This is what it will look like from outside.

Well the frame is all done.  The picture below is from the inside view of the window.

Here is a view from the outside.  You can hardly see the double pane glass.  Before putting it up I'm going to paint all the outside white.  The inside and outside window supports are screwed in with brass screws so the two windows can be taken out later.  I'm going to wait until a nice warm day to put it in.

The outside of the window is all painted and the outside supports are calked and in place.  The framing structure has been added to the window, ready to be bolted in place.

Well the window is in.  My neighbor Steve came over and gave me a hand.

Here it is from the outside.

The outside of all the windows and doors are framed with 3x5 cedar.  I'm making the cedar that will go around the window.  I'm cutting and gluing pieces together, then will cut to the correct shape.

1/27/2013 Here is the piece all ready to be cut to shape.

And here it is above the window.  Now I just have to redo the siding and paint.

Here it is in place and primed.

1/28/2013 Well the outside is all done.  It's primed, just need to paint it.
