This is my Uncle Dick's 1973 Volvo 1800es. Dick has had the car since 1990 but it is time to sell it. Lynn and I flew out to AZ and drove the car back here to SC so I could fix a dent in the back and get the car ready to sell.
New windshield washer pump
Valve cover gasket
Replaced all the rubber fuel lines
Took the rear window latch apart. It works now but does not lock. A $100 part is need to make the lock work.
The wiring under the dash was cleaned up removing all wires not being used.
All the stuff on the wheel well shown below is not original to the car. They are all for the Simple Digital Systems engine controller. I made sure all the wiring was correct and labeled each item. The heavy yellow wires are for the electric fan in case I put it back in. BTW, the display on the controller wasn't working. I contacted the manufacturer and they suggested getting a new cable, which I did ($7). That fixed it.
The original AC unit was put back in. I had to get a new compressor, the other one was frozen, and the dryer and hoses are new. The stock radiator and shroud was put in with new hoses, thermostat and overflow tank. Puts out ice cold air now. The electric fan is not in the car but could be put in if needed. The hottest day so far to drive the car was 70 and it didn't overheat.
The display on the radio didn't work so I bought a new radio. Supports the same speakers but has Bluetooth with hands free calling and USB port.
A used water temperature gauge was bought on eBay. They were put in the correct locations, oil temperature at the top and water temperature at the bottom.
The upper and lower dash covers were put on. They came out better than I thought they would.
To put the dash covers on, the windshield was removed. Fortunately, the person who put it in before me, I think the people who painted the car, didn't silicone it in place. That is why it leaked. So it was relatively easy to remove it without damaging the gasket.
I put the new chrome molding on the windshield.
The tint on all the windows had deteriorated over time so I removed it all. A lot of ammonia was the trick. The rear window was tricky. Had to make sure not to damage the window heater.
The dent under the rear left tail light was fixed. I first bought paint to the car color code and painted it. It was way to bright gold color. Next time I brought the car to the place and they put the machine on the car to get the color. They had a swatch of it and it looked like a perfect match. Well you can see it wasn't. It was better but not a match. But it will have to do.
I used plastic restorer on the AC units that goes under the dash and it turned the gray color back into a great looking black.
