Clocks

This is my newest clock (bought February 12, 2011).  I find it interesting because the clock itself is the weight that runs it.  It's called a gravity or saw clock.  The clock rides down on the straight gear you can see in the right picture.  As time goes by the clock gets lower and lower.  When it gets near the bottom you just slide the clock back to the top.  That "winds" the clock.  The gears mechanism is housed in a heavy steel housing, probably 3-4 pounds.  I don't think the clock is very old, maybe 30-50 years.  It's was made in Germany. I haven't found a history of it.  The original design was probably from Anno in 1750.  The face is porcelain on metal.  The pendulum is that rod in front of the face.  The brass piece at the bottom of it is threaded and is used to adjust the speed.  It took a couple cleanings to get it to work but now it keeps great time and runs flawlessly.
